Phase 1 of the census: More than 26 lakh households have used the self-enumeration feature

New Delhi: The Registrar General of India announced on Wednesday that more than 26 lakh households had already used the self-enumeration option during the initial phase of the Census activities that are now taking place in several states and Union territories.
The RGI stated in a message on X that the figures show increasing involvement in the digital Census 2027 effort. These families have adopted a quicker, more intelligent, and more convenient approach to support nation-building by opting to submit their information online. under some States and UTs, the #SelfEnumeration facility for Phase 1-Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) is presently under progress, according to the RGI.

The eighth census since independence is being carried out in two stages: the population census and the home listing and housing census.
In a number of states and Union territories, field visits for the housing listing and housing census started on April 16. To give a strong basis for the population count, they will enumerate every building, home, and household in the country.
Every state and Union territory will announce the month-long drill between April 1 and September 30. Prior to the field visits, there will be a 15-day self-enumeration opportunity where residents can use a portal to respond to HLO phase questions.

In the first, the exercise will be entirely digital, with enumerators gathering data on their phones using a specially designed mobile application.
The enumerators will physically visit each home and block during the housing listing operations, asking the residents 33 questions on basic amenities in their dwellings, details about the head of the household, including name and sex, and ownership status, among other things.
Next year, the Census's second phase will begin.
