According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate significant expansion projects of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on March 8, including the completion of the country's first fully operating "Ring Metro".
The projects, which are part of the Delhi Metro's ongoing development, are expected to cost more than Rs 18,300 crore and aim to improve public transportation and make daily travel easier in the national capital.
India's First 'Ring Metro'
The opening of the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur segment of the Pink Line will be a significant feature of the event.Stations along the elevated corridor include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, and Maujpur-Babarpur. The project also includes a new bridge across the Yamuna and a double-decker viaduct that will carry a metro line as well as a road overpass.
Magenta Line Extension
PM Modi will officially open the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park expansion of the Magenta Line. The 9.92 km elevated section will add seven stops, bringing the line's overall length to approximately 49 km. Some sections reach a height of approximately 28.36 metres, ranking among the highest elevated tracks in the metro network.New routes are planned.
During the occasion, the prime minister will also lay the groundwork for three additional routes in Phase V (A) of the metro development plan. These include the Central Vista corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, as well as two Golden Line extensions that connect Aerocity to the airport's Terminal 1 and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
Officials said the expansion will increase connectivity in Delhi and surrounding areas while reducing traffic congestion and pollution.
