Once referred to as the "borewell boy" throughout Haryana, Prince is rebuilding his life with resiliency and optimism twenty years after a horrific childhood tragedy.
In a recent interview with NDTV, Prince recalled the event and described how a straightforward childhood moment escalated into a potentially fatal situation. While playing beside a tubewell bore, he and his companion Angrez noticed a little rat. Playful and inquisitive, the lads pursued it as it vanished into the sack-covered borewell. The covering abruptly tore apart as they leaped on it. Prince dropped almost sixty feet into the small borewell, but Angrez was able to maintain his equilibrium.

Prince's life was saved by Angrez's prompt response. He immediately raised an alarm and informed nearby adults, setting off a massive rescue operation. The army was called in after many attempts by the local authorities to reach the stranded toddler were unsuccessful. Prince was eventually saved following a rigorous 50-hour procedure.
Prince remembers fragments of those long hours underground. He remembered receiving assurances that he would be protected from his parents, who were anxiously waiting above. In an attempt to help him see and climb up, rescue personnel lowered a rope with a light attached, but the bulb got too hot, scorching his hands and making him release it.

In the end, rescuers used a different approach. To get to him, they dug a parallel shaft next to the borewell and employed a piping system. Prince was successfully returned to the surface thanks to the army's and the rescue teams' concerted efforts. He added that he could remember the times he was obtaining food and other necessities for survival in the borewell using a rope.
Prince is in good health today and is ready to go. He has been actively looking for work since completing his training at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI). His height prevented him from fulfilling the requirements for recruitment, despite his previous desire to enlist in the army and his efforts to develop a powerful body. He is still hopeful about landing a steady job and being able to support himself in spite of this setback.
