Ricky Ponting Gives Virat Kohli a Tough 2027 World Cup Message: You Cant "Just Be Hanging On"

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are nearing the end of their international careers, are running out of time. The two batting greats have few chances to establish themselves if they are to be genuine contenders for a berth in the 2027 World Cup squad because they only play in one format. It's also impossible to ignore the age factor—Kohli will turn 37 next month, while Rohit is getting close to 39. After more than seven months away from international cricket, Kohli and Rohit made their comeback on Sunday, but they only managed to score 0 and 8 in the opening One-Day International against Australia in Perth.
The former captain of Australia, Ricky Poining, was not amused.
Before the second ODI between India and Australia, Ponting stated on ICC Review, "The one thing I don't like hearing from anyone is that 'I've achieved everything in the game,' because I think you still have to have some really short-term goals and not just be hanging on to try and get through to the 2027 World Cup."
"Virat has always had a strong sense of motivation. And rather than merely waiting for the next World Cup to happen, I'd like to think that he's actually sat down and given himself some objectives and things he can accomplish during this series here in Australia.

The pitch's characteristics contributed to Perth's low scores, according to former India coach Ravi Shastri.
They returned and were caught on a shady pitch, after all. Australia had a solid chance of winning, but the weather made it difficult. "It goes without saying that you will be rusty when you return from a lengthy layoff," the former coach stated.
"When you have that extra bounce and are playing against good fast bowlers, it's difficult for any foreign side to travel in Australia, say, two days before a match in Perth, and get used to those conditions right away. However, I believe that only time will tell. In order to get back into the nets, clear their heads, and resume their activities, they will travel to Adelaide and take a short break.
