According to a statement released by his family on Monday, American chess grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, a well-known commentator and former world youth champion, passed away suddenly at the age of 29.
"It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Daniel Naroditsky," read the statement posted on X by the Charlotte Chess Centre, Naroditsky's club.
Daniel was a beloved member of the chess community who was regarded and adored by players and spectators worldwide. He was a gifted chess player, pundit, and instructor. In addition, the statement said, "He was a devoted friend to many and a loving brother and son."
As of yet, the reason of death is unknown.
.One of the most well-known chess players in the United States, Naroditsky was born in California in 1995 and was affectionately referred to as "Danya" in the community. In 2013, he was promoted to grandmaster.
According to Reuters, he also placed tenth in the previous year's blitz world championship. As a writer, commentator, and online instructor, Naroditsky was well-known. Additionally, he frequently broadcast on Twitch and YouTube.
The Russian grandmaster claims "drug" abuse and foul play.
Previously accusing Naroditsky of cheating, Russian grandmaster and fellow chess player Vladimir Kramnik posted images of a private message made by a fan who had seen the American grandmaster's last stream.
It appeared that the writer was worried about Naroditsky's condition and wondered if he had used medicines.
"Danya is streaming. He seemed to be seriously under the influence of narcotics. The three texts say, "Chess mafia is dangerous, quite worried."
On Tuesday, Kramnik shared the screenshot on X and expressed concern about Naroditsky's unexpected passing.
"What exactly happened?" he asked. I did my best to advise folks to take immediate action in my posts after receiving this from a chess enthusiast buddy two days ago. To those who would rather shame and blame than offer assistance. Terrible tragedy; hopefully, it will be thoroughly examined.
Kramnik's statement that he "did what I could to warn people" was a reference to a number of remarks he had made in the previous few days about Naroditsky's appearance on his stream episodes, which seemed to indicate instability.
