‘The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has conveyed its profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he expressed "deep concern" over the health of former Bangladesh prime minister M Khaleda Zia.
“BNP expresses its sincere gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister India,@narendramodi, for his thoughtful message and kind wishes for the speedy recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. BNP highly appreciates this offer of goodwill and the declaration of readiness to extend support,” the BNP wrote on X.
On Monday, PM Modi voiced "deep concern" over Zia's health and stated that India ready to “extend all possible support in whatever way we can” after Zia's party leaders allegedly indicated that she "extremely unwell" and that the former Bangladesh prime minister had been given ventilated.
This happens at a time when Zia's arch rival, Sheikh Hasina has taken sanctuary in India after a coup in July 2024. One of the elements that has influenced Bangladesh's politics over the past few decades is the rivalry between the country's two former leaders, commonly known as the "Battle of Begums."Security beefed up
Around two in the morning, police set up a roadblock outside Evercare Hospital's main gate. According to hospital insiders, around two dozen people were sent in to control patient mobility and bolster Zia's security, according to The Daily Star newspaper.
On November 23, the BNP's eighty-year-old leader was admitted to a private hospital due to a chest infection that affected her heart and lungs. She was later relocated to the coronary care unit when her health state worsened, according to sources.
According to BNP Vice-chairman Advocate Ahmed Aazam Khan, Zia's condition has gotten worse and she was placed on ventilation, according to a local news source."She is in a really critical situation. There is nothing more to do except solicit prayers from the whole nation," he told reporters outside Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
According to news agency PTI, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also revealed that Zia is still in serious condition while receiving care from both domestic and foreign medical professionals.
"She is quite ill. The entire nation is hoping for her recovery... Our doctors are doing everything they can to treat her, but she is very sick. Her therapy involves both foreign and local experts. Alamgir was cited by tbsnews.net as adding, "They are doing their best."
