On Saturday, India's top-seeded Tanvi Sharma defeated China's Liu Si Ya in a nearly flawless match to advance to the BWF World Junior Champions final in Guwahati. After defeating her opponent 15-11, 15-9, the 16-year-old Tanvi became just the third Indian female player to advance to the tournament's final, following in the footsteps of former world No. 1 Saina Nehwal and Aparna Popat. The second-seeded Anyapat Phichitpreechasak of Thailand, who overcame a deficit to defeat fellow countryman Yataweemin Ketklieng 10-15, 15-11, 15-5 in the other quarterfinal, will now face Tanvi.
For the first time in 17 years, Tanvi had guaranteed India a medal at the World Junior Championships, and she fought hard against Li from the very first point of their semifinal match.
She maintained her lead in the game by not being scared to use the front court's late flicks and cross-court pushes. Even though Liu was able to cut the lead to 8-7 at one point, Tanvi did not falter as the Indian worked to a 7-3 lead in the first game.
Tanvi finished the first game in under 13 minutes because she didn't let Liu get into her groove. She quickly took a 12–4 lead in the second set to show which way the match was going.
Tanvi was not at her best for a while, but she recovered with another well-balanced down-the-line smash on the Chinese's serve.
"I am really pleased with how I played today and felt extremely at ease. After the game, Tanvi stated, "I only made a few mistakes in the second game, at 12–4, but my coach advised me to concentrate on playing my strokes slightly inside the lines, and it worked."
In the men's singles, Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah of Indonesia had earlier won an hour-long, tumultuous match against Li Chi Hang of China 14-16, 16-14, 15-12.
