Lucknow The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a huge crackdown on alleged Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators across the state, and orders were issued to create detention camps in every division of the state, a senior official said here on Wednesday.
According to the source, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives to 17 urban local governments to create complete records of illegal immigrants within their domains.
For additional review, these lists must be sent to the appropriate Commissioners and Inspectors General. Commissioners and IGs have been directed to establish special detention facilities to house anyone found during the verification process as part of the first phase of the action plan.
"The administrative apparatus has activated in accordance with the chief minister's directives. In a number of districts, verification, documentation, and field evaluations have started," the official stated.
On November 22, Adityanath had issued unambiguous instructions to all district magistrates of the state to take swift and harsh action against illegal immigrants and had directed that temporary detention camps be built in each district to detain infiltrators.
The chief minister had emphasized that law and order, national security, and social peace are key priority, and that any type of criminal activity will not be permitted.
According to the officials, illegal immigrants with foreign citizenship will be placed in these institutions and would be ensured there until the requisite verification process is completed.
Adityanath had said that illegal immigrants imprisoned in detention camps will be returned to their countries of origin as per the established procedures.
Uttar Pradesh shares an open border with Nepal, allowing free movement of inhabitants of both nations, but checks on residents of other nationalities.
