Vedanta will expedite an Odisha aluminium megaproject worth Rs 2.27 lakh billion and create more than 2 lakh jobs.

In order to expedite approvals and implementation of the company's projected USD 20 billion, or Rs 2.27 lakh crore, aluminium project—one of India's biggest industrial investments to date—Vedanta chairman Anil Agarwal has actively sought the Odisha government's assistance.According to The New Indian Express, Agarwal stated in a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Majhi that the company was dedicated to creating an aluminium ecosystem in the state that would produce 30 lakh tonnes of aluminium annually (MTPA).

The plan calls for an investment of Rs 1.27 lakh crore for a 3 MTPA smelter at Dhenkanal and Rs 1 lakh crore for a 6 MTPA alumina refinery at Rayagada. According to reports, the business has already won the Sijimali bauxite block at auction.

n order to discuss the next stage of execution, Agarwal has also told CM Majhi that he and his senior management team will travel to Bhubaneswar before to Diwali. In order to showcase Odisha's leadership in industrial transformation and resource-based growth that is sustainable, he has also suggested a collaborative press contact with worldwide media.

Ahead of Agarwal's planned visit, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja met earlier this week with representatives from the Odisha Mining Corporation, the Steel and Mines Department, and other ministries to discuss the status of Vedanta's projects.
Massive Economic Impact Is Promised by the Project
According to corporate estimations presented at the ALUMEX India 2025 event in New Delhi, Vedanta's aluminium growth plan is expected to create up to two lakh employment, both directly and indirectly. As a "green aluminium" facility, the proposed smelter at Dhenkanal uses cleaner technologies to reduce emissions.
Additionally, the CEO of Vedanta previously stated that the facility should be operational in less than five years and that the land acquisition process for the Dhenkanal site is proceeding without hiccups.

Vedanta wants to establish Odisha as the hub of India's aluminium industry by doubling its overall aluminium capacity from 3 to 6 MTPA with its planned smelter, refinery, and aluminium park projects in Dhenkanal, Rayagada, and Jharsuguda.
